New Mexico Clay - Especkled (Cone 5/6) Especkled is a distinctive new clay from New Mexico Clay, featuring an ochre base adorned with tiny black speckles that subtly bleed through glazes, adding unique visual interest. This clay offers a smooth, even texture after firing and excels in throwing, making it an excellent choice for dinnerware. Its low absorption rate ensures durability and makes it highly compatible with a variety of glazes. The speckles will often show through most glazes and underglazes, enhancing the depth and character of your pieces. While it performs well at cone 6, it achieves the best results at cone 5, showcasing both versatility and a striking aesthetic.
